About the role

Here at Babcock, we are seeking an Oracle DBA (Database Analyst) to work on the on-going real-time support of critical systems in the baggage handling space. As an experienced Oracle DBA, you will be working on supporting an installed baggage handling system that utilises complicated Oracle technologies.


As the Senior DBA in a high performing team, you will be required to create, amend, monitor, repair and archive databases forming part of the developed products in development, test and production environments.

For these databases, you will be expected to:
• Manage and monitor performance
• Developing where necessary processes to automate the monitoring
• Provide out of hours support on a rota basis (One week on / one week off, on-call evenings to be worked from home)
• Provide technical knowledge, support and expertise to other members of the team


The Skills:

• Oracle database versions 11g, 12c – experience of more modern versions will be a bonus
• SQL Developer
• Experience of Data Guard, Advanced Replication and GoldenGate (or similar)
• Demonstrable experience in managing databases including BI systems. This will cover diagnostics and repair/upgrade/patching of databases, monitoring tools such as Cloud/Grid Control
• Experience in the following aspects of this role: Database Design, Requirements Tracking, Design Review and Verification, Code Review
• Experience of working with Oracle RAC and ASM Storage
• Ability to author, debug and modify PL/SQL scripts
• A Good understanding of working in a process / manufacturing environment

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• To ensure that database changes meet project requirements
• To Produce / Maintain scripts to create databases and content to meet the project requirements
• To ensure that current databases are monitored to maintain their healthy status
• To provide Out of Hours support on a rota basis
• Ensure yourself and other members of the team contribute to a design which follows the standard approach and philosophies
• Interaction with the project teams to ensure that the databases are created and available in a timely fashion to support the software development and site commissioning activities
• To contribute to the development/design of database access components of the Airports products
• To carry out database creation in support of project development and installation of databases on site where necessary
• To carry out upgrades, patches and amendments to databases, I all environments, in support of project activities
• To contribute to a continuous improvement culture
• To Review / Produce design documents describing database systems and modifications to existing systems



• Formal training in Oracle products.
