About the role


In a world of challenging and demanding Defence projects, Babcock is working closely with the MOD Submarine Delivery Agency, delivering engineering support to sustain the UK Royal Navy Submarine Flotilla in service through life.


We are seeking an engineer to work within the Safety Services Group to assist in the delivery of safety engineering activities in support of the UK Submarine Flotilla.


This is an exciting opportunity to join our programme and develop your knowledge of both submarine engineering and safety engineering, whilst working in a challenging and professional environment.


The successful individual will need to demonstrate they are:


  • A proactive and enthusiastic individual, qualified to Degree level in a relevant Engineering discipline. A lesser formal qualification supported by relevant experience may be considered.
  • Technically competent – to ensure engineering outputs delivered are correct, accurate and coherent.  The successful individual will also be required to hold, or be working towards IEng status with an appropriate professional body.
  • A capable communicator at all levels - The role will require the need to build and sustain effective and lasting relationships with the Customer stakeholders and our teams located in Bristol, Devonport and Clyde.


Based in Bristol, there is a requirement to travel and work in the customer offices in Filton (also in the Bristol area) on a regular basis, as well as, occasional travel to the Devonport, Plymouth and Clyde Waterfront sites.

What do I need to do the role?


You’ll need to be personable, professional and driven with the ability to engage people at all levels.


Would also like you to have:

  • Mechanical / Electrical safety engineering background
  • Academically qualified to HNC level or above in a relevant engineering discipline with significant relevant experience.
  • Professionally qualified to Incorporated Engineer level with an appropriate institution, or working towards this (desirable)
  • Ideally some experience of submarine systems with an appropriate background in submarine design, support or operations. (Desirable, not essential)
  • Experience in the application of Safety and Risk management techniques.
