About the role
Babcock International Group, a leading engineering support services company, is currently looking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Principal Engineer to support a new enterprise-wide Joint Portfolio Office (JPO).

Babcock Maritime Mission Systems within Naval Nuclear is focused on support to the Royal Navy's in-service combat and strategic systems, trusted to deliver and sustain the fight function to ensure mission ready ships and submarines.

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced systems engineer to assume a leading role in Babcock’s contribution to the Submarine Combat System Enterprise Joint Portfolio office. You will be based in the Bristol area with travel to travel to Plymouth, Scotland, Barrow and Southern England as required. You will directly contribute to providing greater visibility of programming and design issues across the Combat Systems (CS) Portfolio, enabling better decision-making across the enterprise and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of CS delivery across all Submarine classes and through life.

The main focus will be to represent Babcock and work with MoD and industry partners to seek efficiencies and further opportunities for improvement across the enterprise. Identifying dependencies and challenges in the CS in-service programme and to make recommendations to overcome them, thus improving the effectiveness across the whole enterprise to assure delivery of CS capability to all programmes. As well as developing and maintaining an effective close working relationship with submarine project customers and sustainment project stakeholders

What do I need to do the role?

  • You will be a highly motivated, proactive individual with the ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Experience in successfully managing projects in a regulated industry with multiple stakeholders and have sufficient experience in both reviewing and writing complex engineering reports.
  • A deep knowledge of Submarine Combat Systems and equipment integration and support.
  • Experience of working with, or as part of, Defence industry / MoD / Royal Navy authorities and sound knowledge of their organisational structure, working practices and policies.
  • You will need to be Degree qualified in a relevant engineering based discipline or HND with significant demonstrable relevant experience and be a member of a relevant professional engineering body.

What else do I need to know?

  • The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. You must be a sole UK national and hold or be capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
  • The role will be in an environment regulated by ITAR / Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This will require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.
