About the Role

As a Systems Engineering Team Lead at Babcock, you’ll take charge of a talented team of engineers, driving the design, integration, and delivery of complex system solutions. You’ll own the definition and integrity of the system-level design, ensuring everything from requirements and risk management through to modelling and change control is expertly managed. Your leadership will keep projects moving, ensuring designs are compliant, traceable, and ready for certification.

You’ll lead technical investigations, oversee delivery schedules, and guide your team to produce high-quality engineering artefacts that meet time, cost, and quality targets. Beyond day-to-day delivery, you’ll play a key role in shaping engineering processes, championing innovation, and continuously improving how we operate. This is a role where technical excellence meets true leadership, and where your impact will be seen across the full lifecycle of major defence programs.


About You

You’re a confident and experienced Systems Engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges and bringing people together to deliver results. You combine strong technical knowledge with natural leadership skills, empowering your team to perform at their best while maintaining a clear focus on safety, quality, and compliance. Your sound engineering judgement allows you to make informed, multi-domain decisions, and you’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves when needed.

You’ll bring a solid understanding of design, analysis, and integration techniques, along with experience managing governance frameworks and technical assurance in large, multi-stakeholder programs. You’re also passionate about mentoring others, sharing knowledge, and driving continuous improvement. To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • Australian Citizenship with a Defence security clearance (or the ability to obtain one)
  • Hold an accredited (under the Washington Accord) bachelor’s degree in engineering or hold the recognised engineering qualifications to be eligible to obtain Professional Engineer category Membership through a recognised body.
  • Membership of a relevant engineering body, preferably with chartered status
  • Demonstrated relevant experience in relatable technical / engineering roles
  •  A good understanding of applicable engineering toolsets (e.g. PLM or MRP systems, design, simulation and analysis software)
