About the role
We’re seeking a dynamic and experienced Software Test Team Lead to drive excellence in software and systems testing within a high-performing agile environment. In this role, you’ll provide strategic leadership and hands-on management to ensure the timely delivery of engineering artefacts while fostering the growth and wellbeing of your team.
You’ll be responsible for leading technical investigations, developing robust test strategies aligned with industry and defence standards, and ensuring the seamless integration of engineering processes across operational areas. With limited guidance, you’ll oversee a sub-set of engineering activities, applying your expertise in testing tools, documentation, and risk mitigation to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Your work will directly contribute to the development of sustainable and innovative solutions that benefit not only our organisation but also the broader community. Some intrastate/interstate and overseas travel will be required in this role.
About you
You’re a confident and capable leader with a strong background in software testing and systems engineering. You thrive in agile environments and bring a deep understanding of defence documentation standards, technical risk assessment, and product safety implications. Your ability to mentor, guide, and inspire your team is matched by your technical acumen and strategic thinking.
You have a proven history of leading engineering teams through complex delivery cycles, applying sound judgement and technical insight to overcome challenges. You possess strong knowledge in both functional and non-functional testing, and you’re adept at developing and defining test cases that reflect real-world end user requirements. Your ability to design and refine test processes ensures the delivery of high-quality, reliable software systems.
You communicate clearly with stakeholders, manage risk responsibly, and consistently uphold safety and quality standards. Above all, you’re committed to building a collaborative, forward-thinking engineering culture that supports both innovation and professional growth.
To be successful you will bring:
- Australian Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain Commonwealth Security Clearance
- Hold an accredited (under the Washington Accord) bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Experience with Australian Defence Acceptance Testing Activities
- Experience in developing Australian Defence Test documentation artefacts
- A good understanding of applicable test toolsets (e.g. Web API Test Tools, Test Automation Frameworks, test scripts etc
