System Safety Engineer

About you

The System Safety Engineer supports the identification, assessment and management of safety risks across the engineering lifecycle, maintaining hazard logs, safety documentation and assurance evidence to ensure compliance and traceability. Working within multidisciplinary teams, the role evaluates safety impacts of engineering changes, verifies safety controls, identifies gaps, and applies risk-based safety engineering principles to help deliver safe, compliant and effective maritime capabilities.

 

To be successful you will bring:

  • Hold an accredited (under the Washington Accord) bachelor’s degree in engineering or hold the recognised engineering qualifications to be eligible to obtain Professional Engineer category Membership through a recognised body.
  • Australian Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
  • Qualification in Systems Engineering, Systems Safety Engineering, Safety Assurance, Risk Management or a related discipline. (Desirable)
  • Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Safety Engineering, Risk Management or a related technical discipline. (Desirable)
  • Training or certification in Systems Safety Engineering, Hazard Analysis, Risk Assessment, Safety Case development or Safety Assurance methodologies. (Desirable)
  • Training in engineering governance, configuration management, requirements management or assurance frameworks. (Desirable)

 

About the role

Your duties will include but not limited to:

  • Conduct technical investigations and analysis to identify issues, support problem resolution, and recommend design improvements
  • Plan, deliver and monitor engineering tasks to meet time, quality and cost objectives.
  • Produce technical documentation, engineering solutions and lifecycle records in accordance with delegated authority requirements
  • Maintain accurate technical records and knowledge management systems to support through-life asset management
  • Present and discusses technical information with internal and external stakeholders, including formal reviews
  • Provides engineering advice and technical expertise to support knowledge sharing and build organisational capability
  • Apply knowledge of design, analysis, manufacturing and support techniques, while ensuring compliance with relevant procedures, codes and standards
  • Conduct technical risk assessments and understand the product safety implications of engineering activities.
