About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Team Lead – Collins Operations (WA), this role will be key in providing Mechanical Engineering expertise within our growing Collins Submarine Program team. The role will see you influence technical decisions and provide mechanical engineering knowledge of structural, hydraulic and pneumatic design and analysis techniques to support design and sustainment project activities.

Role responsibilities could include:


  • Responsible for an aspect of a given design, sustainment or operations engineering activity, identify and co-ordinate technical activities required to progress, driving towards an acceptable solution.
  • Be responsible for the preparation of information and presentation at formal reviews with customers (internal and external).
  • Make engineering decisions throughout the lifecycle of the project/product.
  • Responsible for providing technical advice supporting the manufacture, assembly and testing of mechanical systems.
  • Responsible for the safety of equipment for which they have ownership, including design, manufacture, test, installation, set to work, operation, maintenance and disposal.

About you


With extensive experience in an Engineering role, you will thrive in a complex environment and have a passion for the Defence industry. You will foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation and pride yourself on your ability to use initiative. You will have excellent communication skills which allow you to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and possess the following:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Australian Citizenship with NV1 security clearance.
  • Membership of a relevant institution and hold or working towards Charted status.
  • A minimum of 8 years relevant experience and demonstrate a good understanding of the design, analysis, manufacturing and support techniques across relevant disciplines.
  • Previous experience with mission and safety critical, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical systems in a submarine environment.
  • Previous engineering experience in either Marine / Defence / Defence Industry.
