The role

As a Non-Destructive Examination Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll be part of a team of more than 30 specialists delivering critical inspection activities across submarine maintenance programmes. This role offers the opportunity to work with a range of non-destructive examination techniques while contributing directly to the safety and effectiveness of one of the UK's most important defence capabilities.

Day-to-day, you'll be required to:

• Conducting in-service and post-repair non-destructive examinations in accordance with industry standards and specifications.
• Performing inspections using radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, and visual inspection techniques.
• Producing accurate inspection reports and clearly communicating technical findings to stakeholders.
• Supporting radiation safety activities and acting as a Radiation Protection Supervisor when required.
• Maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance across all inspection activities.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane. Shift patterns for this role are based on a 28-day rota comprising day shifts (07:15-19:40) and night shifts (18:45-07:10), attracting a Shift Disturbance Allowance.

Essential experience of the Non-Destructive Examination Engineer

• Experience working with non-destructive examination or inspection techniques.
• Demonstrable understanding of engineering inspection standards and practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical findings clearly.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards.

Qualifications for the Non-Destructive Examination Engineer

• PCN Level II in Radiography.
• Minimum of one additional PCN Level II qualification in one of the following: Penetrant Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Visual Inspection, or Ultrasonics (3.1/3.2).
• PCN Level II Eddy Current – desirable
• PCN Level II Advanced Radiation Safety – desirable
• CSWIP 3.0 or CSWIP 3.1 – desirable

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
