This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering team supporting critical defence infrastructure. Working within our Combat Systems section, you’ll help maintain, repair and improve essential systems that contribute directly to the operational readiness of the Royal Navy. As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll carry out mechanical maintenance, repairs, inspections and fault-finding activities on a variety of combat systems and equipment. Your work will help ensure critical assets remain safe, reliable and available when needed.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and nuclear-implicated work in line with operational requirements.
- Identifying, diagnosing and rectifying equipment defects, system faults and mechanical issues.
- Maintaining high technical and quality standards to support the availability and performance of combat systems.
- Following safe systems of work, health and safety legislation and control of work processes.
- Contributing ideas to improve processes, productivity and engineering performance.
This is a 36-hour working week based onsite at HMNB Clyde. Set working times are Monday to Thursday, 07:15 – 16:45.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter:
- Experience within a marine, industrial engineering or mechanical maintenance environment.
- Ability to work at height, in confined spaces and in varying weather conditions.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and technical information.
- Strong fault-finding, problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills.
- Knowledge of maintenance procedures, risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work, alongside excellent teamwork skills
Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter:
- Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent NVQ/City & Guilds qualification), or
- HNC or above in a Mechanical Engineering discipline supported by relevant industry experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
