We currently have an opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter to join our Estates Management team at Babcock.


The role holders will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on heating systems, boiler systems and other mechanical equipment at RNAD Coulport. Specific responsibilities will include investigating and diagnosing mechanical faults, carrying out repairs and conducting scheduled maintenance activities in accordance with departmental procedures and Health & Safety legislation. Additionally, the role holders will provide guidance and instruction to apprentices.


Please note that applicants should be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces and in inclement weather conditions.


The anticipated salary for this role will be £28,327 per annum.




The successful candidate will demonstrate previous experience of working in mechanical maintenance roles, coupled with a strong focus on delivering high quality workmanship to agreed timescales. Experience of working with heating / hot water systems and industrial boiler systems would be an advantage. An understanding of Legionella associated activities and experience of using MEWPS would also be desirable. Key areas of competency we require will include:


  • SVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering / completed Modern apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
  • Experience of working within a Health & Safety-focussed environment.
  • Excellent team working and interpersonal skills.

Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment.

The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.
