The role
As a Lifting Operations Appointed Person, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring that all lifting operations across HMNB Clyde are planned, coordinated and delivered safely and effectively. This is a unique opportunity to support critical assets that underpin the UK’s defence capability, working at the forefront of complex engineering and contributing to national security.
Day‑to‑day you’ll be required to:
- Develop and approve lift plans, method statements and risk assessments.
- Ensure all lifting operations meet LOLER and BS7121 standards.
- Brief and supervise Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel involved in lifting activities.
- Support the Lifting Operations Manager in meeting operational KPIs.
- Mentor team members and contribute to maintaining a robust skills matrix.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday and is based on site at Faslane.
Essential experience of the Lifting Operations Appointed Person
- Strong knowledge of LOLER, BS7121 and lifting‑related regulations.
- Experience supporting lifting operations within waterfront, industrial or maintenance environments.
- Understanding of operating procedures within highly regulated or safety‑critical facilities.
- Proven capability in developing safe systems of work.
- Background in risk assessment and operational compliance.
Qualifications for the Lifting Operations Appointed Person
- Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) accredited training.
- A recognised health and safety qualification such as CITB Health and Safety Awareness, IOSH Working Safely, IOSH Safety Health and Environment for Construction Workers, or equivalent.
- Working at Height Awareness training.
- Additional lifting, plant, or safety‑related qualifications - Desirable
- Experience in defence, nuclear or heavy engineering environments - Desirable
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
