The role

As a Lift Supervisor, you'll play a vital role in supporting safe and compliant lifting operations across one of the UK's most important naval bases. Working within a highly skilled team, you'll supervise lifting activities that support critical defence operations, ensuring every lift is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with regulatory requirements.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Supervising lifting operations in accordance with approved lifting plans and safe systems of work.
  • Ensuring compliance with Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER), BS 7121 requirements, and site procedures.
  • Reviewing and applying lifting method statements, risk assessments, and instructions provided by Appointed Persons.
  • Monitoring lifting activities and reporting non-conformances, incidents, hazards, and improvement opportunities.
  • Coaching and mentoring colleagues, supporting competence development and completion of task books where appropriate.

 

 

This role is based on site at HM Naval Base Clyde and is contracted to 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday.

 

 

Essential experience of the Lift Supervisor:

  • Working knowledge of LOLER, BS 7121, and relevant lifting industry regulations and best practices.
  • Experience supervising lifting operations within complex industrial, engineering, marine, naval, or heavy engineering environments.
  • Knowledge of safe systems of work, health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Understanding of facility operating procedures and operational constraints within high-hazard environments.
  • Strong numeracy, literacy, spatial awareness, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and plans.

 

 

Qualifications for the Lift Supervisor:

  • SVQ/NVQ Level 3 in Controlling Lifting Operations (Supervising Lifts).
  • Competent Supervisor (Lifting Operations) qualification.
  • NPORS or equivalent accredited slinging qualification.
  • Health, Safety and Environment Specialist Supervisor Test.
  • Occasional Climber Working at Height qualification.

 

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
