The role

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you'll provide specialist electrical design expertise and technical assurance across one of the UK's most important defence environments. Operating within a highly regulated naval base, you'll help ensure essential infrastructure is safe, compliant, efficient, and ready to support critical defence operations.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine hands-on engineering, asset surveying, design delivery, and technical authority responsibilities. You'll influence infrastructure decisions across the site while developing your expertise within a business that delivers some of the UK's most complex engineering and defence programmes.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Acting as the Technical Authority for electrical services, providing expert advice across infrastructure projects.
  • Surveying and inspecting electrical assets throughout HM Naval Base Clyde and assessing their condition against relevant standards.
  • Delivering electrical and building services designs for smaller site projects and supporting larger programmes delivered by external partners.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, quality, environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across engineering, facilities, project delivery, and defence operations to optimise infrastructure investment.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, based onsite at HM Naval Base Clyde.

Essential experience of the Electrical Design Engineer:

  • Experience within an electrical design engineering role, or a strong desire to develop into electrical design engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and equipment within large commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or engineering environments.
  • Understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements, including DSEAR.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and carry out electrical calculations.
  • Strong problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.

Qualifications for the Electrical Design Engineer:

  • Recognised apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • 18th Edition City & Guilds qualification.
  • City & Guilds 2395 Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations.
