The role

As a Compliance Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. you’ll play a vital role in maintaining the safety and assurance of high‑hazard operations across HMNB Clyde. This is an opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge in a dynamic defence environment - supporting activities that directly contribute to national security, engineering excellence and a safer world.

 

Day‑to‑day you’ll be:

 

  • Supporting compliance monitoring across high‑risk engineering activities, including design, installation, maintenance, testing and inspection.
  • Providing clear advice and guidance to operational departments, contractors and project teams.
  • Developing technical competence to become a topic specialist in key engineering areas.
  • Contributing to compliance checks, incident investigations and planned audit activity.
  • Building knowledge of industry best practice for asset care, working at height, confined spaces, lifting operations, pressure systems, electrical testing and more.

 

This role is full time, 36 hours per week, Monday–Thursday, 07:15–16:45 and is based on site at HMNB Clyde Faslane.

 

Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. We are happy to consider flexible, blended working, including part-time, condensed hours, and job sharing. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.

 

Essential experience of the Compliance Engineer

  • Experience working within a highly regulated, high‑hazard industrial environment.
  • Operational experience within at least one relevant discipline (e.g., lifting operations, pressure systems, electrical testing, working at height, confined spaces).
  • Understanding of engineering compliance, safety management and regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and provide clear, practical guidance.
  • Comfortable engaging with diverse stakeholders across engineering and operations.

 

Qualifications for the Compliance Engineer

  • HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services or Fire Management Disciplines).
  • IOSH Managing Safely or IOSH Risk Management qualification.

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
