The role
As a Workshop Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of our operational delivery — leading, inspiring and supporting your team to ensure critical outputs are delivered safely, efficiently and on time. This is a pivotal role where your decisions directly impact national defence readiness and operational excellence. You’ll be empowered to make resource prioritisation decisions and drive performance, all while developing your leadership skills in a dynamic and rewarding environment
Day-to-day, you’ll be:
- Leading and managing workshop teams to deliver operational outputs
- Coaching, mentoring and developing staff to reach their full potential
- Managing succession planning and performance across your team
- Authorising and overseeing overtime budgets for supervisory staff
- Making strategic decisions on resource allocation across work centres
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Ashchurch.
Essential experience of the Workshop Manager:
- Holding responsibility as a Material Account Holder with deep knowledge of the Defence Logistics Framework
- Demonstrating a proven track record in material account management within a Defence organisation
- Using Authority systems such as MJDI, JAMES and VITAL effectively
- Understanding Public Stores Accounting principles (DEFSTAN-0599)
- Managing equipment logistics for CES and TacCIS systems
Qualifications for the Workshop Manager:
- Educated to Level 4 in the National Qualification Framework (e.g. HNC, Level 4 NVQ, Higher Apprenticeship) or equivalent workplace experience

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
