About the role 

 

Babcock is rapidly establishing itself as an international Naval ship designer and builder. We have built on the success of the UK MoD Type 31 Frigate, and are pursuing opportunities for frigate export variants (AH140) with overseas customers. As well as supporting exports of frigates the engineering team is actively working on other complex shipbuilding programs around the world, from small fast attack craft all the way up to air craft carriers.

You will join a national team of over 700 engineers and designers within the Marine Sector of Babcock. We are a leading design consultancy providing naval architecture, marine system engineering, electrical engineering, design modelling and project support services to the marine and defence markets.

 

We have base offices in Bristol, Rosyth or Plymouth, and offer flexible working with office attendance and travel to meet project requirements.

 

What do I need to do the role?

 

The role is within our complex shipbuilding programme, developing designs through concept and early stage design as well as supporting the bidding process. 

 

As a Structural Designer you will develop a range of technical outputs, within discipline (including General Arrangements, Layouts, Profiles, Deck Plans, Midship Sections, etc.,), in accordance with company and regulatory standards. You will also be required to develop innovative design solutions across the appropriate phases of the design lifecycle in line with recognised standards and to the required time, cost and quality requirements.

 

In addition, you will belong to the wider engineering capability group and will have the opportunity to support other projects in different roles within your discipline.

Qualifications

 

You’ll need to hold a minimum of an ONC (or BTEC Level 3) in a relevant engineering subject or an applicable higher education qualification along with suitable experience and knowledge of marine structures and design processes.

 

What else do I need to know?
•    The successful candidate will hold, or be eligible to acquire, Security Clearance at the appropriate level for this post.
•    Passport, Licences and Qualifications must be shown at interview stage.
