Clyde

The Nuclear Repair Welder is based within our HMNB Clyde business area.

As the Ministry of Defence’s commercial partner at HMNB Clyde, Babcock provides specialist engineering support services, including the management of infrastructure and nuclear facilities. We also deliver operational maintenance, upgrades and repairs to support Royal Navy vessels, including the Vanguard and Astute-Class nuclear submarines.  

 

The role

The difference our new Nuclear Repair Welder will make
As a Nuclear Repair Welder, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. With your skills and experience, you’ll be providing key services for the site in repairing nuclear plant and structures.  
 
Day to day, you’ll be carrying out welding activities, repairs and inspections on systems and equipment on all RN and other entitled vessels and, when required, in other sections including the estate.

This role is based on site at Faslane, Helensburgh.


Essential experience

•    You will hold a recognised fabrication/welding Apprenticeship to N/SVQ Level 3 or HNC and above in a fabrication/welding discipline with industry experience
•    You will demonstrate previous welding experience, including significant experience of pipe welding and be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
•    Experience of MMA process and proficient at TIG welding on small-bore pipework encompassing Carbon Steels, Stainless Steels and Copper Nickels
•    Previous experience of working with maintenance technical instructions, welding procedures and acceptance standards
•    Experience of utilising Work to Risk, COSHH assessments and Safe Systems of Work
•    Experience of FCAW and mechanised welding would be advantageous
•    CSWIP 3.0 and PCN LPI level 2 qualified is desirable 
•    Successful candidate will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance
