The role
This is an exciting role at HMNB Clyde within the Fleet Operations Directorate ensuring through-life maintenance to the Royal Navy’s submarine flotilla.


You will be joining an expanding team in excess of 30 within the NDE department and day to day you will be responsible for conducting in-service and post-repair inspections to applicable specification and standards.


The role is full-time, based at HMNB Clyde, and involves inspections using the following techniques:

 

  • Radiography
  • Ultrasonics
  • Magnetic Particle 
  • Liquid Penetrant
  • Visual


A large part of what we do in Clyde is radiography, and therefore this is a shift-working role to provide out of hours radiography capability. This may include acting as a Radiation Protection Supervisor.

You will be expected to attend and achieve PCN Level II in the aforementioned techniques if you don’t already hold them. This will be fully funded including travel and expenses.


Attractive Shift Pattern
Shifts are currently a 21-day rota with rest days between. Rota is working 3 days, then 4 then 2 as below. 

  • Day 1(Tue), 2 (Wed) & 3(Thu): 19:00 – 07:15 
  • Day 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 rest days but can volunteer for overtime, subject to working time directive
  • Day 11 (Fri), 12 (Sat), 13 (Sun) & 14 (Mon): 19:00 – 07:15
  • Day 15, 16, 17 & 18 rest days but can volunteer for overtime, subject to working time directive
  • Day 19 (Sat) & 20 (Sun): 07:00 – 19:15
  • Day 21 rest day

 

Essential experience of the NDE Engineer - 

  • Experience working with Non-Destructive Examination Techniques.
  • Sound understanding of Radiation Protection Principles.
  • Understanding and communication of complex findings and concepts is paramount to the role, therefore strong verbal and written skills are required.


Qualifications for the NDE Engineer -

  • PCN Level II in Radiography.
  • A minimum of 2 PCN Level II in the following: LPI, MPI, Visual, UT (3.1/3.2)

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • PCN Level II Eddy Current 
  • PCN Level II Advanced Radiation Safety
  • CSWIP 3.0 / 3.1

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
