The role
As Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. The role will include providing support to the Senior Mechanical Engineer (TCA) and TCA Manager in implementing all non-nuclear safety implicated (Non-NSI) Mechanical design requests for HMNB Clyde in line with NNSI TCA processes & policy. 

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and maintaining the design intent of all systems to ensure they are safe to operate from a design perspective whilst optimising the client’s investment.

 

  • Assist the Senior Mechanical Engineer (TCA) and TCA Manager in maximising the utilisation and the efficiency of all the section’s resource.
  • Ensure that all tasks are carried out in accordance with the Company’s cost, time and quality requirements.
  • Implementation of the HMNB Clyde’s Company Safety, Security, Quality and Environmental policies in the Facility Design section ensuring that assessments of risks are carried out which lead to safe working attitudes and practices. 
  • Provider of conceptual and detailed Mechanical and Building Services Engineering designs across HMNB Clyde for Naval Base Projects, Facility Managers and in house customers for all projects of value of <£25k. For projects of >£25k value post holder will be setting brief/specification and conducting review/approval of 3rd party design and reporting into TCA for final endorsement of design.
  • Supporting other Naval Base and Depot Organisations (FM’s, MOD DIO, NBP etc) with respect to reviewing and approving Design Proposals, Contract Specification Documents to ensure compatibility with Statutory, JSP and Depot Standards.

 

This role is full time, 37 hours per week provides hybrid working arrangements with 2/3 days in the office and onsite depending on business needs.  

 

Essential experience of the Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Knowledge and working experience in Mechanical Design 
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Building Services 
  • Knowledge of risk assessments and planning assessments 
  • Capable of working as a part of a tight knit, fast paced team

 

Qualifications for the Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Mechanical / Building Services related degree is desirable but not essential. 
  • HNC/HND with experience is essential.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
