The role  
As a Mechanical Fitter within our Marine Section, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you'll be key to the business.


Day to day, you’ll undertake mechanical fitting activities, repairs and inspections on systems and equipment within our Marine section and when required, in other sections including the Estate.

 

  • Completion of all planned preventative maintenance and nuclear implicated work to ensure the department meets the objectives of the business  
  • Identification and rectification of all system, manufacture, defects and alterations to ensure the continued availability and performance of the Marine Systems
  • Ensure that work is carried out in line with current processes and make suggestions on improving systems and processes to increase productivity in accordance with set objectives and timescales
  • Work within all H&S legislation, Safe Systems of Work and control of work processes within BM&T Clyde policy


Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter  

  • Proven experience in marine/industrial engineering and/or mechanical maintenance
  • A strong understanding of drawings and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues, with a high attention to detail and fault finding abilities
  • Comfortable working in challenging conditions, including heights, confined spaces, and inclement weather.
  • Demonstrable experience with maintenance procedures, risk assessments, COSHH, and Safe Systems of Work, prioritizing safety and compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work that meets rigorous acceptance standards.


This role is full time, with a 36 hour working week. 8:05 to 16:45 Monday to Thursday 8:05 to 12:05 on Friday. Based on site at HMNB, near Helensburgh.


Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter

  • Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or NVQ or C&G equivalent) or HNC and above in a Mechanical Engineering discipline with industry experience


Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maitain Security Check (SC)  security clearance for this role.
