The role
As a Multi Skilled Operative you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. We currently have an opportunity in our Combat Systems team to conduct a wide range of activities to support the provision of services to UK Nuclear Submarines and warships, as well as visiting NATO units at HMNB Faslane
Day-to-day, you’ll perform various duties including manual handling, lifting, moving everything from small pieces of technical equipment to the use of forklifts for heavy lifting.
- Provide support to engineering teams to enable the identification and rectification of all system, manufacture, defects and alterations to ensure the continued availability and performance of Clyde HM Submarines and Surface Craft.
- Ensure that work is carried out in line with current processes and make suggestions on improving systems and processes to increase productivity in accordance with set objectives and timescales.
- Work within all H&S legislation, Safe Systems Of Work and control of work processes within BM&T Clyde policies.
This position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time. This position may involve working at height and in confined spaces also.
You must have a willingness to travel as you can be deployed to support RN vessels abroad, this can be at short notice and for a duration from 3 to 4 days until up to a month worldwide with time dependent on vessel support.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week, Monday-Friday with a half day on the Friday and is based on site at Faslane. Overtime available depending on business needs.
Essential experience of the Multi Skilled Operative
- Experience in Forklift Driving, Safety, Labouring, Slinging or Explosives Handling are all desirable but not essential.
- Working at sea on ships, Operating RHIBs or similar small boats on water. RYA Powerboat and commercial endorsement is desirable.
- Knowledge of Risk Assessments, COSHH & Safe Systems of Work and Manual Handling
- Keen to learn and take on any training provided.
- Competent teamworking, communication, time management, prioritisation, organisational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills are required. Keen to learn and take on any training provided.

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain SC security clearance for this role.
