The role

As a Mechanical Fitter within our Combat Systems section, you’ll be at the heart of maintaining and repairing critical systems that keep our naval fleet operational. This is a role that makes a real difference – supporting national defence, protecting communities, and contributing to global security. Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Completing planned preventative maintenance and nuclear-implicated work to meet business objectives
  • Identifying and rectifying system defects and alterations to ensure performance and availability
  • Carrying out repairs and inspections on combat systems equipment and occasionally across other sections
  • Working within all Health & Safety legislation and Safe Systems of Work
  • Suggesting improvements to processes and systems to boost productivity.

 

 

This is a full-time, permanent role, working 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday (07:15 – 16:45), based on site at HMNB Clyde.

 

 

Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter:

  • Previous experience in a marine or industrial engineering environment, or mechanical maintenance
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and solve problems effectively
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards
  • Knowledge of maintenance procedures, risk assessments, and COSHH.

 

 

Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter:

  • Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship (SVQ Level 3, NVQ, or City & Guilds equivalent)
  • OR HNC or above in a Mechanical Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.
