As a Supportability Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of an exciting international programme supporting the Brazilian Navy with the transition and ongoing operation of NDM Oiapoque (formerly HMS Bulwark). You’ll provide hands‑on engineering expertise, help maintain essential naval capability, and contribute to work that protects global security and strengthens international partnerships.
Day-to-day, you’ll join a dynamic, collaborative team made up of Babcock colleagues and Brazilian naval personnel, expanding your technical knowledge and leadership capability in a challenging and highly rewarding setting. This four‑year fixed‑term contract offers exceptional career development, broad operational exposure and the chance to make real impact within defence and engineering.
- Provide direct engineering support on all Platform and Combat System matters for the vessel and the wider Brazilian Navy.
- Support and supervise planned maintenance activities in line with the core contract.
- Assist with maintenance planning, coordination and defect resolution during maintenance periods.
- Identify and procure spares, providing technical advice and ensuring smooth operational delivery.
- Support the Production Delivery Manager and supervise subcontractors carrying out maintenance tasks.
This role is full time, 40 hours per week and is based on site in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Essential experience of the Supportability Engineer
- Extensive experience in landing platform dock warship support, including operating strategies and systems.
- Proven capability in delivering upgrades, maintenance planning and through‑life support for naval platforms.
- Strong understanding of engineering processes, compliance standards and safe working practices.
- High level of attention to detail, data accuracy and problem‑solving ability.
- Ability to build collaborative working relationships with stakeholders, with desirable experience from the Royal Navy or similar organisations.
Qualifications for the Supportability Engineer
- Experience within an engineering or technical environment and qualified to ONC level in a mechanical or electrical discipline, with an understanding of military and/or commercial ship systems.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
