The role
As a Submarine Repair Specialist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is an exciting opportunity to join our User Acceptance Group (UAG) team, who set requirements from the user perspective for new infrastructure projects conducted by the Major Infrastructure Projects organisation.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll support and deliver the day to day activities of the Major Infrastructure Project User Acceptance Group (UAG).

 

  • To assure that future ASTUTE class and PWR1 facility designs, and safety cases are developed with full cognisance of, and compliance with, the functional user requirements, by providing steerage and close guidance to the design, safety and project engineers with respect to their area of submarine maintenance specialisation.
  • To review and advise on user level acceptance of derived facility design, technical and safety substantiations via design review attendance and documentation verification.
  • To support the derivation and management of functional user requirements, by providing expert submarine maintenance advice for their areas of specialisation, with involvement of XUAG members as appropriate in accordance with processes laid down in the Requirements and Acceptance Management Manual.
  • Provide operations and requirements input as a part of the acceptance process for new facilities.
  • To provide subject matter expertise input into developing programmes including Dreadnought and AUKUS.


This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

 

Essential experience of the Submarine Repair Specialist

  • Extensive experience in nuclear submarine operations and maintenance and/or nuclear facility upkeep.  
  • Experience and knowledge of the ASTUTE Class submarine is particularly desirable but not mandatory. 
  • Facility/Plant management roles in a nuclear infrastructure facility - Desirable
  • Facility commissioning experience - Desirable
  • Production managers/zone managers with recognisable experience in DMPs/RAMPs/BMPs/LTBs - Desirable
  • Submarine Engineers with refit/deep maintenance experience - Desirable

 

Qualifications for the Submarine Repair Specialist

  • Engineering Degree - Desirable
  • Chartered Engineer - Desirable
  • Nuclear Submarine Cat A Watchkeeper, preferably with PWR2 experience - Desirable
  • Lower qualifications will be considered if adequate job experience and subject matter knowledge can be satisfactorily demonstrated.

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
