The role
As a Strategic Systems Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) - Mission Systems are a forward thinking, customer focused group, working closely with the MoD, Royal Navy and Submarine Enterprise stakeholders to provide engineering management and technical support services to our customer to deliver available and capable submarines for the Royal Navy. You will play a key part in the entry into service and in-service support of vital submarine systems.
Day to day, your principal focus is to work with MoD Project Teams to understand their requirements and needs and provide technical solutions, outputs and project management in support of the projects you’re allocated. You will ensure the work meets the high levels of quality set by our mixed professional teams and be driven to lead technical and logistical tasks to delivery.
You will:
- Undertake work as required by a Strategic Weapons MoD Lead (safety, information assurance or maintenance related) in support of Vanguard and Dreadnought Programs.
- Support the development of engineering process improvements and subsequent documentation to reflect new / revised procedures.
- Report as required, progress with activities and projects being carried out for the MoD.
- Attend conferences between UK and US authorities as and when required (international travel).
- Attend meetings with MOD as and when required (national travel).
The role is full time, 35 hours and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home. You will be expected to travel nationally and potentially internationally as required in support of our MoD Customer.
Essential experience of the Strategic Systems Engineer:
- Experience of working in a customer facing role preferably of the MoD, Royal Navy or other Defence industry partner/regulatory body
- Experience in writing and editing professional documentation
- Experience of articulating complex technical and project management requirements
- Experience (and ability) in prioritising to meet client needs, working to tight deadlines and building effective relationships
- Strong stakeholder management experience
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Qualifications for the Strategic Systems Engineer
- A Degree, Higher National Diploma, Higher National Certificate in engineering or project management, or similar qualification or experience.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
