The role
As a Senior Ship Control Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary.  Your Primary role is to manage the safe release and control of all Work Authorities, including administration of the Lock Out Tag Out system, for all work undertaken on the Submarine. This will ensure that all work carried out is completed safely and efficiently.


Day-to-day, you’ll support the management and co-ordination the activities of the integrated teams of Babcock and Royal Navy personnel within the Ship Control Office to ensure compliance with control of work processes. 

 

  • To manage the administration of the Submarine’s Lock Out Tag Out system.
  • To vet, authorise and release Work Authorities in accordance with the requirements of the relevant Safety Case.
  • To maintain the master nuclear implicated work sequencing document.
  • Attending various meetings to support enablement and deconfliction of work activities against the project schedule.
  • Ensuring nuclear, radiological and product safety standards are always maintained.

 

This role is full time OR part time, is based on site at Devonport Royal dockyard.

 

Essential experience of the Senior Ship Control Engineer

  • Understanding of the principles of Control of Work and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Knowledge/understanding of Permit to Work systems and planning techniques.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Previous experience in managing technical teams at a junior to middle management level.
  • Understanding of complex mechanical/electrical engineering systems - Desirable
  • Experience or understanding of Nuclear Submarine repair and maintenance - Desirable

 

Qualifications for the Senior Ship Control Engineer

  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline.
  • ILM Level 3 or Equivalent in Leadership and Management, or equivalent experience in managerial position.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
