The Role

As a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is an exciting opportunity to support Babcock with delivering our purpose of Creating a Safe and Secure World Together through the production and manufacture of high-performance civilian and military vehicles and other exciting projects within the futures pipeline.

 

Day to day, you’ll be part of the Quality and Improvement Management Team, to provide assurance at all levels of the business that vehicles (an products) are being developed and delivered to the correct quality levels, ensuring also, compliance with the necessary contractual flow downs and legislative requirements.

 

  • Conduct audits and inspections to ensure adherence to quality systems (ISO 9001, Six Sigma, etc.).
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) and identify opportunities for process optimization to reduce defects and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain and update quality documentation, including manuals, procedures, and reports.
  • Track and analyse data to identify trends and drive decisions and prepare detailed reports on quality metrics and performance for management review.
  • Compile Product Quality Plans.
  • Co-ordinate site action responses and provide periodic reports on corrective action plans and progress to external bodies such as DNV, DQAFF, SMF, DVSA

 

This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport, Plymouth and requires regular travel to our Walsall site on a bi-monthly basis.

 

Essential experience of the Senior Quality Assurance Engineer

  • Demonstrable experience and success in quality control/assurance, evaluation, and improvement in an automotive/defence production environment.
  • Experience in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), requirements definition and understanding of the customer context and requirements with regards to quality control, assurance, evaluation, and improvement.
  • Ability to develop/compile Product Quality Plans (PQP).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience in applying statistical analysis to data.
  • Proficiency in quality tools (e.g., FMEA, SPC, PPAP, MSA, 8D’s, 5 why’s, DMAIC, Ishikawa fish bone diagrams etc.
  • Practical knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and compliance standards including ISO9001, or ISO/TS16949 and/or AS/EN 9100.
