The Senior Human Factors Engineer role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Royal Navy’s nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role

 

The difference our new Senior Human Factors Engineer will make
As a Senior Human Factors Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is an opportunity to experience a broad diversity of work within human factors, enhancing your skills and knowledge to progress within Babcock. 

 

Day to day, you’ll lead a small team to Support Engineers and other scientific disciplines operating in the high hazard nuclear regulated industry. This will include supporting the design development of both new and existing site systems, processes and facilities. You’ll provide human factors input into the nuclear safety assessment process and support the successful implementation (including validation) of the human performance elements of the safety case within the operational business setting.

Essential experience

•    Degree in Psychology plus MSc in Occupational Psychology, Applied Psychology or, Industrial Psychology
or
•    Ergonomics based discipline or an engineering degree with high psychological / ergonomics content (or equivalent).
•    Working towards Registered Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors or as a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society with experience of working in the human factors field within high hazard industries.
•    You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
