The role
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll help us shape the future of the UK’s submarine support solution, which will be reflected in the contractual, organisational and behavioural arrangements.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll manage the development of the technical requirements and the associated operating model for specific aspects of the support solution, coordinating Babcock’s SME technical input into these and the resulting tender response – making sure that our proposition is clear, coherent and compelling.

 

  • Work with the Submarine Availability Partnership (SMAP) / Long-Term Partnering Agreement (LTPA) requirements lead to develop and manage the requirements development workstream, coordinating Babcock SME input for their respective subject areas,
  • Work with the SMAP/LTPA op model team to develop and manage the detailed design activities of the operating model, coordinating Babcock SME input.
  • Work with the Babcock bid team to develop and manage the value propositions and technical input into Babcock’s LTPA bid response, ensuring that it satisfies the defined requirement set and aligns with the collaborative operating model,
  • Work with the SMAP/LTPA Portfolio Management Office to report progress, opportunities, and risks against the above,
  • Work with other SMAP/LTPA functions (e.g. commercial, culture) to ensure that the overall solution is integrated and coherent.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home. Based at Babcock Technology Centre and requires regular travel to Devonport, Plymouth and Clyde.

 

Essential experience of the Senior Engineering Manager 

  • You will have experience in aspects of supporting UK submarines in-service
  • You will be familiar with the development of requirements and solution design
  • The role involves working in close collaboration with stakeholders both internally and externally, so excellent communication skills are a must
  • Ability to work well with small teams as well as a wider groups of stakeholders. Fostering teamwork and collaboration
  • Good understanding of change management best practice and continuous improvement methodologies.
