The role

As a Senior Electrical Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you’ll join a team that are responsible for providing both technical and design support for facilities, systems and equipment at Devonport that are essential to the nuclear defuel programme. 

 

You will be responsible for determining the condition of EC&I assets within defuel facilities and establishing requirements for system/equipment upgrades, life extension and replacement. The role will also require you to provide EC&I design support to projects required for the defuel facilities. 

 

Day to day, you’ll provide professional and flexible technical support to the ongoing operations and maintenance of EC&I systems and equipment within Devonport’s defuel facilities. This includes: 

 

  • Undertaking asset condition surveys and obsolescence studies. 
  • Specifying replacement equipment/components and supporting the production of configuration documentation for permanent modifications.
  • Maintaining configuration of technical drawings and documentation.
  • Supporting fault diagnosis and rectification. 
  • Supporting the design development of EC&I systems through a variety of activities and production of deliverables, such as capturing requirements, specification writing, producing maintenance/commissioning documentation and providing support to implementation activities.

 

This role is full time, 36 hours and will be based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements. 
 

Essential experience of the Senior Electrical Control & Instrumentation Engineer:

  • Considerable operational knowledge of EC&I systems, both hardware and software-based systems and equipment.
  • Sound understanding of relevant industry legislation for electrical systems, particularly functional and machinery safety.  
  • Instrumentation for electrical plant. 
  • Demonstrable experience of developing EC&I systems through typical design lifecycles.
  • Stakeholder management to capture project scopes and requirements for successful project delivery. 
  • Ability to understand and produce electrical engineering drawings using AutoCAD.

 

Qualifications for the Senior Electrical Control & Instrumentation Engineer:

  • Degree in an appropriate electrical engineering discipline or significant experience with HNC.
  • Professional registration with an engineering institute is desirable.
