The role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you’ll be part of a team that are responsible for maintaining and managing changes to the design intent of nuclear implicated and equipment that support the upkeep of the Royal Navy’s fleet of submarines.

 

Day to day, you’ll lead activities throughout the design lifecycle, acting as technical checker of documentation as well as:

 

  • Lead the provision of technical support, guidance and advice to facility owners, operators and maintainers
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date suite of reference design documentation for facility systems and equipment under your authority
  • Ensure that statutory UK legislative requirements are embodied into engineering systems and that those systems and safe to use and fit for purpose
  • Produce work schedules and managing priorities in agreement with key stakeholders
  • Support the growth and development of Engineers in your team, ensuring capabilities are maintained in line with current and future demand

 

This role is full time 36 hours and will be based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements. 
 

Essential experience of the Senior Mechanical Engineer:

  • Demonstrable experience of having leadership responsibilities as part of a technical team in a relevant engineering industry
  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering principles for the design, operation, and maintenance of pressure/pipework systems in a highly regulated industry
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant design codes, engineering standards and legislation
  • Experience of engineering project specification, planning, budgeting and delivery
  • Experience in the use of engineering software packages for design and analysis
  • Professional membership with an engineering institution

 

Qualifications for the Senior Mechanical Engineer:

  • A degree in a relevant engineering subject

 

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role.
