The role

As a Senior Calibration Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of our Mechanical Calibration team, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of Inspection, Measuring, and Test Equipment (IMTE) used across our operations and Ministry of Defence (MOD) assets. This is a career-defining opportunity to lead technical excellence in a UKAS-accredited environment, where your expertise will directly impact national safety and engineering standards.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll develop cutting-edge measurement methods, mentor calibration professionals, and drive continuous improvement across our metrology disciplines. This role offers a dynamic blend of hands-on engineering, leadership, and strategic influence—perfect for someone passionate about precision and progress. 

 

  • Leading and mentoring calibration staff to uphold technical standards.
  • Developing and refining measurement procedures and uncertainty budgets.
  • Authorising calibration certificates and technical documentation.
  • Investigating complex measurement issues to enhance accuracy.
  • Driving improvement initiatives and managing capital expenditure projects.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard

 

Essential experience of the Senior Calibration Engineer

  • Exceptional attention to detail with a structured, methodical approach and commitment to quality and safety.
  • Proven track record of delivering consistent results with professionalism, integrity, and leadership.
  • Strong problem-solving, mentoring, and team-leading capabilities in technical environments.
  • Experience in Metrology is desirable, with a solid engineering or scientific background.
  • Passion for continuous learning and driving best practices in regulated industries.

 

Qualifications for the Senior Calibration Engineer

  • Level 5 qualification or equivalent professional status in engineering.
  • Alternatively, Level 4 qualification with significant relevant experience.

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
