The role

As a Security Guarding Lead, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a vital role in protecting one of the United Kingdom’s most important defence sites. Leading a dedicated security team, you’ll help deliver safe, secure, and effective operations that support national security and critical infrastructure.

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of security operations in a complex environment. You’ll influence best practice, develop high-performing teams, and contribute to continuous improvement—while building your own leadership skills in a dynamic defence, aerospace, and engineering environment.

 

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

  • Lead, develop and manage a team of security professionals and contractors
  •  Manage security resources and equipment to ensure operational effectiveness
  • Support on-call requirements to maintain minimum security staffing levels
  • Develop and improve security procedures, safe working practices and operational guidance
  • Promote a strong security culture by role modelling best practice and company values

 

This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, based on site at Devonport Dockyard.

 

Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. Essential experience of the Security Guarding Lead

  • Demonstrating strong experience leading and developing teams, ideally within a security environment
  • Delivering excellent customer service and communicating effectively across all organisational levels
  • Providing workplace coaching, training, and performance support
  • Handling conflict and applying effective de-escalation techniques
  • Applying sound knowledge of security best practice, systems, and relevant legislation

 

 

Qualifications for the Security Guarding Lead

  • Level 3 qualification (or higher) in Leadership, Management, Security, Customer Service or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
  • Formal security training, ideally including National Protective Security Authority courses
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Frontline Security Industry Authority Security Officer and/or CCTV Operator licence

 

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
