The role
As a Reactor Mechanical Fitter, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you’ll utilise technical competence to work within strict tolerances as a Mechanical Fitter in a highly regulated and process driven environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll carry out a range of maintenance and installation activities, working on various systems and equipment in radiologically controlled areas, in support of complex submarine engineering projects.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Reactor Mechanical Fitter:
- Experience of working within Marine Engineering environments and projects
- Exceptional hand skills with the ability to work to close tolerances
- Demonstrable experience of working on the removal, installation, and overhaul of mechanical equipment with a particular focus on propulsion equipment and auxiliary system equipment
- Ability to work methodically and to high standards, including tool control
- Ability and confidence to read and interpret technical drawings.
Qualifications for the Reactor Mechanical Fitter:
- Time served apprentice within the field of Marine Engineering / Naval Submarine engineering
- Indentured Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline
- Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline
- Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
