The role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. The Devonport site is undergoing major infrastructure investment to support future MOD ship and submarine programmes. The Major Infrastructure Projects (MIP) Business Unit leads facility development, including the design, build, and commissioning of docking and berthing for Astute Class submarine maintenance.
Day-to-day, you’ll drive change management within a key zone of a Submarine Deep Maintenance Project, overseeing governance, analysis, impact assessments, and approvals. Provide expert insights, multi-layered reporting, and data-driven recommendations to support strategic decisions.
- Oversee change management against the performance measurement baseline.
- Conduct data analysis, impact assessments, and provide strategic recommendations.
- Coordinate forecasts from supporting functions and prepare pre-tender estimates.
- Assist the commercial function with tender compilations, negotiations, and reviews.
- Generate internal and external monthly reports and perform in-depth investigations.
This role is full time 35, hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Quantity Surveyor
- Proven experience in a change control/management environment.
- Strong understanding of project controls, including cost control, earned value, scheduling, and estimating.
- Skilled in operating and managing change management systems.
- Experience working with MOD / Qualifying Defence Contracts.
- Familiarity with NEC4 / JCT contracts.
Qualifications for the Quantity Surveyor
- APMP/RICS or equivalent qualification, or currently working towards it.
- Degree, HNC, or HND qualification, preferably in an engineering discipline.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
