Protect what matters most on nationally significant defence programmes

At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Project Security Officer at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.

The role

As a Project Security Officer, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that protective security is embedded, coordinated and assured across major defence infrastructure projects. Acting as the focal point for project security, you’ll provide leadership and oversight across personnel, physical, information and cyber security domains.

Day-to-day, you’ll help project teams interpret and apply security requirements proportionately, support informed risk‑based decision‑making, and ensure statutory, regulatory and contractual obligations are met. In return, you’ll gain exposure to complex, high‑profile programmes and develop a deep understanding of security across the full project lifecycle, strengthening your long‑term career in defence and security.

  • Coordinating protective security across personnel, physical, information and cyber security domains
  • Ensuring compliance with MOD, contractual and corporate security policies and standards
  • Supporting project teams with secure access arrangements for people, assets and information
  • Maintaining security documentation, registers and supporting risk‑based decision‑making
  • Promoting a positive security culture through engagement, guidance and awareness activity

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Project Security Officer

  • Experience working in a security‑focused role within the UK Defence industry
  • Understanding of personnel, physical, information and cyber security principles
  • Experience working with MOD security documentation such as DEFSTAN, DEFCON and ISNs
  • Knowledge of security risk management within project or operational environments
  • Membership of a professional security body would be advantageous

Qualifications for the Project Security Officer

  • Completion of a recognised Security Controller or equivalent security training (desirable)
  • A Level 5 qualification in Security Risk Management or similar would be advantageous
  • Relevant professional experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
