The Project Engineer role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role

The difference our new Project Engineer will make
As a Project Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. New Facilities is a growing function within the dockyard, looking to deliver world class facilities to support the submarine and equipment programmes. This will allow a wide range of opportunities for you to grow and develop, working across various programmes. The variety of work will bring an ever-changing environment to your day to day working where no two days are the same. 

Day to day, you’ll provide support to Project Managers in the day-to-day delivery of programmes of work. You’ll be required to be competent in supporting key aspects of a project such as: safety, scope, schedule, finance, risk, quality and resources to achieve a project’s agreed objectives.

Essential experience

•    An awareness of project management techniques and activities
•    Previous knowledge/experience within a project, technical or management environment 
•    A proficient user of MS Office 2010 Applications
•    Ability to capture project information and present it in easy-to-understand formats
•    Good communications and stakeholder management skills 
•    Experience in the engineering or a technical industry beneficial
•    The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this role.
