The role
As a Production Support Operative, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Join our team as a Production Support Operative at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth, working across various business units. Play a crucial role in supporting complex engineering projects, from Warships and Submarines to Factory operations, ensuring smooth and efficient delivery.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll contribute to maintenance, installation, and equipment testing across warships, submarines, and factory settings at Devonport Dockyard. Working closely with Electrical Fitters to ensure the smooth execution of complex engineering projects.  

 

  • Assist experienced Electrical Fitters with pre-heat requirements for welding and temporary electrical supplies.
  • Support equipment installation and maintenance, including system functional tests and monitoring duties.

 

This role is full time 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

 

There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. OWP is a temporary variation to your standard terms and condition that commits you to support 7-day working arrangements. For full details of the patterns, pay and durations, this can be found in the OWP 1 and OWP 2 agreements (available from hiring manager).

 

Primarily, it involves 5-week shift cycles consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift. An example of the remuneration for these shifts is as follows:

 

Gross salary: £31,229
Gross OTE for core Dayshift/Backshift Pattern: £44,724

 

Essential experience of the Production Support Operative

  • Ability to read engineering drawings, interpret work instructions, and use workshop tools, including those specific to electrical engineering.
  • Marine engineering experience preferred, including work on Royal Navy ships, submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels, or large commercial ships—other relevant engineering experience considered.
  • Experience working in a Naval Base environment - Desirable

 

Qualifications for the Production Support Operative

  • Full UK driving License is a requirement of this role.
  • HS0003 Hot Work Operators / Sentries - Desirable
  • HS0384 Practical Fire Training - Desirable
  • NUC1119 Entry to Radiological Area - Desirable
