The role
As a Principal Estimator, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be part of an exciting transformation with the estimating function, driving world class project delivery performance. You will lead a team of developing Estimators working within a dynamic project environment. 

By combining an inquisitive approach and your analytical skills, you will look for opportunities to drive continuous improvement and transformation within the wider function.

Day-to-day, you’ll manage and co-ordinate a team of Estimators in the production of multi-disciplined estimates.

• Lead and manage team outputs to ensure the successful delivery of Submarine contracts.
• Capturing additional or emergent work required during the Project Execution Phase of our projects. 
• Provide insightful management information which will support senior management decision making. 
• Improve the capabilities within your team and strive to develop and maintain a high performing estimating function.
• Liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to build lasting relationships and manage multiple priorities.

This role is full time 35, hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Principal Estimator

• In-depth management experience, with prior experience of leading a team.
• Preferred mechanical/electrical/constructive production experience.
• Excellent numerate and written communication and strong computer literacy within industry standard tools (e.g. MS Office suite and estimating specific software)  
• Proven strong people skills and experience in stakeholder management within situations of competing priorities. 
• Working knowledge of work measurement, cost estimating, cost and data analysis, cost modelling and assurance.

Qualifications for the Principal Estimator

• Degree level or above in a STEM subject, or equivalent experience within a production background. 
• APM PFQ qualified – Desirable.
