We have a new opportunity for a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join our Power Distribution and Standby Generation (PDSG) team within ‘Engineering Services – Facilities Engineering Group’, at Babcock. The Technical Authority (TA) are responsible for providing both technical support and design consultancy for non-nuclear and nuclear Babcock PDSG assets (including high voltage and high energy 50Hz and 60Hz distribution), and as such provide a delegated professional service to the operational teams supporting Ministry of Defence non-nuclear estate, for Devonport.
Who we are looking for?
We are looking for you to have a thorough understanding of electrical engineering principles for developing and maintaining electrical power systems. You will have proven experience of designing power distribution systems and detailed knowledge of the general regulations, legislation, and standards. You will have the ability to understand and produce electrical engineering drawings with good interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written, including report writing) and be able to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels within the organisation.
What will you be doing?
As a Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll be responsible for leading the provision of technical solutions to the ongoing operations and maintenance of electrical systems across the site, coupled with providing support to the Design Consultancy function whose activities are focussed on the provision of new, or modification to; designs, equipment and facilities, as well as injection of new capabilities and undertaking life extensions activities.
This type of work entails the application of the Design & Safety Processes across the design lifecycle (Start-up, Concept, Scheme, Detail, and Implementation), undertaking a variety of defined activities and deliverables, and following the appropriate levels of technical governance.
In this role you will act as a technical lead providing professional and flexible technical support to the ongoing operations and maintenance of the dockyard’s extant power systems and equipment.
The experience you’ll bring
• Chartered Engineer with a relevant professional engineering institution or be working towards;
• A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (Electrical/Power Systems Engineering).
You must be a sole UK national and hold or be capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
