The role
As a Principal Civil Structural Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll provide technical leadership across complex civil and structural engineering projects, helping to deliver critical facilities and infrastructure upgrades within a highly regulated environment. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you'll influence engineering decisions, solve complex technical challenges, and ensure high-quality solutions are delivered safely, efficiently, and to exacting standards.
Day-to-day, you'll be required to:
- Leading the delivery of civil and structural engineering work packages, ensuring projects are delivered to scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.
- Providing technical leadership and specialist engineering expertise throughout the design lifecycle.
- Managing technical design packages from concept development through implementation, assurance and handover.
- Reviewing engineering designs, calculations and technical documentation, ensuring compliance with governance, safety and quality standards.
- Supporting multidisciplinary teams, stakeholder engagement activities, technical risk management and the development of junior engineers.
This role is full time and is predominantly remote, with travel to Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth required depending on business needs.
Essential experience of the Principal Civil Structural Engineer
- Significant experience in civil and structural engineering design within complex infrastructure, engineering or industrial projects.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing technical work packages.
- Strong understanding of engineering governance, safety and quality requirements within regulated environments.
- Knowledge of, or the ability to interpret, American seismic design codes and standards.
- Experience within defence, nuclear, marine, rail, heavy industrial or similarly regulated sectors.
Qualifications for the Principal Civil Structural Engineer
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

The successful candidate must hold or be able to achieve and Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
