The role
As a Principal Civil Structural Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be working within a project team on defuel activities, leading on life extension of the facilities, through life maintenance and reference design.

 

Day to day, you’ll be responsible for managing a team of engineers, overseeing all technical aspects of through life management of the infrastructure across Devonport Royal Dockyard to ensure the wide range of facilities.

 

Responsibilities as Principal Civil Structural Engineer will also include:

 

  • Undertaking civil and structural design and analysis tasks.
  • Undertaking inspections of a variety of civil assets across the entire Devonport site.
  • Identification of defects and specification repair materials and techniques.
  • Liaising with plant manages, facility operators to facility inspections and other engineering disciplines.
  • Providing technical advice at all levels.
  • Preparing technical scopes and specifications and provide an intelligent customer role.

 

This role is full time, 36 hours and based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements.

 

Essential experience of the Principal Civil Structural Engineer

  • A sound understanding civil structures, preferably including knowledge of nuclear safety related structures.
  • You need to possess good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with others, including internal stakeholders and customers. 
  • Self-motivated and ability to deliver to a scheduled deadline.
  • General knowledge of structural behaviour and design intent/function of assets.

 

Qualifications for the Principal Civil Structural Engineer

  • Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution (ICE or IStructE).
  • You’ll be either educated to degree level in civil, structural or related engineering discipline, or hold a level 4/5 STEM qualification (HNC/HND) with substantial relevant experience.

 

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
