Engineer the Electrical Infrastructure Behind Critical National Defence Operations

As a Power Systems Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of the engineering that keeps the Royal Navy’s vessels safe, supported and operational. You’ll influence availability, reliability and compliance across complex systems, contributing to national security while developing your own technical capability in a dynamic, highly specialised environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll help maintain and support the private electrical distribution network that powers one of the most significant naval engineering sites in the world. You’ll join our Power Distribution and Standby Generation (PDSG) team within the Facilities Engineering Technical Authority, a team responsible for high‑integrity supplies, frequency conversion systems, SCADA networks, and the electrical infrastructure that supports critical dockyard operations and nuclear‑licensed facilities.
- Providing technical advice on the operation and maintenance of power distribution equipment.
- Undertaking power system calculations and studies using industry‑standard analysis software.
- Maintaining and updating electrical drawings, documentation and technical configurations.
- Analysing system data, producing clear reports, and specifying replacement equipment where needed.
- Leading fault diagnosis, rectification and return‑to‑service testing while ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations and quality standards.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 2 days in the office/onsite.
Essential experience of the Power Systems Engineer
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles.
- General knowledge of power systems and electrical distribution networks.
- Familiarity with key industry frameworks, standards and codes.
- Ability to understand electrical drawings and create them using AutoCAD.
- Experience in fault diagnosis and rectification activities.
Qualifications for the Power Systems Engineer
- Minimum of HNC or equivalent in an Electrical/Electronic Engineering discipline.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
