The role

As a Planning Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll join a specialist planning team supporting the delivery of in-service submarine maintenance programmes that are critical to Royal Navy operations. This is an opportunity to play a key role in ensuring submarine availability by transforming complex engineering and maintenance data into robust, achievable maintenance plans.

Working within a highly collaborative environment, you'll engage with a variety of stakeholders to identify maintenance requirements, resolve planning challenges, and develop schedules that support the successful delivery of engineering activities. Your work will directly contribute to national security while offering excellent opportunities to develop your planning, engineering, and project controls expertise within one of the UK's leading defence and engineering organisations.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to

• Identify maintenance activities and work packages from a range of engineering data sources.
• Develop and maintaining indicative planning schedules and key date schedules.
• Resolve planning issues, data gaps, and activity ambiguities to support delivery objectives.
• Liaise with engineering teams, project stakeholders, and customers to ensure planning accuracy and quality.
• Support the planning and coordination of in-service submarine maintenance periods.

This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week, based at Devonport Royal Dockyard. Flexible working arrangements are available. Travel to other Babcock sites, including Bristol and Clyde, may occasionally be required.

Essential experience of the Planning Engineer

• Experience delivering engineering projects, maintenance programmes, or engineering services.
• Experience analysing technical information and translating requirements into structured plans.
• Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a complex environment.
• Planning, project management, or project controls experience would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of submarine or surface ship operations and maintenance activities, and familiarity with Primavera P6, would be beneficial

Qualifications for the Planning Engineer

• Engineering qualification such as NC, HNC, HND, or equivalent demonstrable engineering experience

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
