The role
As a Naval Architect Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. The waterfront is a continually evolving environment, which is going through a period of modernisation. As such there is the opportunity to help shape the future infrastructure of the dockyard, helping to make it more efficient and safer to operate. While at the same time, keeping the existing facilities in service.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll form part of a core team, dedicated to keeping the waterfront of Devonport Royal Dockyard available and suitable for the berthing of the Royal Navy’s surface ships and submarines.

 

 

  • Help manage the through life support for floating assets.
  • Be involved in surveying floating assets, specifying refit and repair packages, and post-refit asset acceptance.
  • Review periodical surveys carried out by our dedicated surveying team.
  • Assist in the preparation of design estimates, schedules, tenders and technical substantiations, whilst monitoring spends to ensure assigned projects and tasks are completed on time, in cost, and to the required quality.
  • Develop future waterfront assets with the MoD customer, forming statements of requirements, and specifications, ensuring they meet future operational demands.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

 

Essential experience of the Naval Architect Engineer

  • Experience in AutoCAD or other design software.
  • To pose an understanding of survey / NDE techniques, repair alternatives and standards.
  • To pose an understanding of vessel / afloat plant construction.
  • An analytical and proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Effective personal management, communication and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively, and to deliver in a complex environment.

 

Qualifications for the Naval Architect Engineer

  • You may have a degree in Naval Architecture, or other engineering discipline. Alternatively, you may have previous ‘time served’ experience working in a similar industry, or background in facility management and upkeep.

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
