The role
As a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be significant in providing engineering support and advice whilst undertaking design and inspection activities relating to Mechanical Services across the Dockyard, which is one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. 


Day to day, you’ll maintain and control modifications to, and deviations from, the design intent of nuclear implicated and non-nuclear mechanical systems, acting as the custodian of reference design documentation, primarily working with process plant and piping systems.


Responsibilities will also include:

  • Undertaking design activities from requirements capture, design development, implementation and close out, to through-life support, decommissioning and disposal
  • Ensuring compliance with licence conditions, statutory legislation and design codes/standards
  • Producing design guidance, substantiation and analyses and delivering against agreed budgets/timescales.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Systems Design Engineer:

  • Proven background as a Mechanical Design Engineer with knowledge of mechanical services systems (water services, steam & condensate, high and low pressure air, industrial gases etc.), knowledge of pressure systems, technical substantiation, computer aided design and engineering and demonstrable experience of having applied the whole design lifecycle.
  • You will be provided with a bespoke development plan with appropriate training which may cover Water Regulations, Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, Steam and Condensate systems, Natural and Industrial Gas Systems.

Qualifications for the Mechanical Systems Design Engineer:

  • A minimum of a Higher National Certificate in a relevant engineering discipline 


The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
