The role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be part of the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant Interface Equipment team, supporting the design and development of equipment that interfaces with submarine reactor plant systems. Your work will directly contribute to the safe operation, maintenance and refit of nuclear submarines, making a tangible impact on national defence.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll have a technically rewarding opportunity to develop your engineering expertise across the full design lifecycle, working on complex systems in a highly regulated environment. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, contribute to critical engineering decisions, and continue to build your professional capability within the nuclear engineering discipline. Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Producing design documentation and technical assessments to support engineering projects
  • Developing engineering designs across the full lifecycle, from concept through to implementation
  • Providing technical advice and guidance to support compliance with standards and legislation
  • Supporting design reviews, hazard studies and engineering analysis activities
  • Collaborating with engineering teams to deliver outputs in line with project schedules and budgets

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

 

Essential experience of the Mechanical Engineer

  • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles, particularly in pressure systems or pipework design
  • Knowledge of the engineering design lifecycle and associated processes
  • Awareness of relevant engineering legislation, standards and regulatory requirements
  • Experience in areas such as computer-aided design, fluid systems, or engineering analysis (desirable)
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and organisational skills

 

Qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer

  • HNC or equivalent qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
