The role
As a Mechanical Engineer – Fuel Handling, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Join a specialist team working with state-of-the-art equipment, ensuring operational capability within the fuel handling function at Devonport Site. Play a key role in delivering excellence and maintaining high-performance standards.
Day-to-day, you’ll assist in daily fuel handling operations across the site, maintaining strict safety protocols and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.
- Provide specialist technical expertise while ensuring safety and quality.
- Coordinate approved procedures for execution within the section.
- Commission, calibrate, and maintain Fuel Handling systems and plant.
- Ensure timely completion of procedures and quality records for assurance.
- Promote a strong safety culture and supervise Fuel Handling Team training.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard
There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. OWP is a temporary variation to your standard terms and condition that commits you to support 7-day working arrangements. For full details of the patterns, pay and durations, this can be found in the OWP 1 and OWP 2 agreements (available from hiring manager).
Primarily, it involves 4-week shift cycles consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Engineer – Fuel Handling
- Awareness of UK civil and defence nuclear regulatory requirements is beneficial.
- Experience in mechanical engineering within a high-hazard industry.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplined team.
- Experience in setting trade staff to work is advantageous but not essential.
Qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer – Fuel Handling
- ONC in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent - Essential
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
