The role
As an Industrial Painter, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Join our team at Devonport Dockyard, applying expert surface preparation and precision coating techniques to protect submarine surfaces. Use airless spray, brush, and rollers to ensure they meet the highest standards.
Day-to-day, you’ll perform surface preparation and coating applications with precision, ensuring maintenance and adherence to high-quality standards in submarine surface protection.
- Systematically prepare bare substrates and existing coatings.
- Provide technical guidance to employees on relevant techniques and procedures.
- Maintain working area cleanliness and ensure equipment protection.
- Apply Damage Control markings on raised tallies.
This role is full time 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. OWP is a temporary variation to your standard terms and condition that commits you to support 7-day working arrangements. For full details of the patterns, pay and durations, this can be found in the OWP 1 and OWP 2 agreements (available from hiring manager).
Primarily, it involves 4-week shift cycles consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift. An example of the remuneration for these shifts is as follows:
Gross salary: £31,229 - £35,530
Gross OTE for core Dayshift/Backshift Pattern: £ 44,724 - £50,882
Essential experience of the Industrial Painter
- Previous experience in a marine, industrial, or commercial environment.
- Strong understanding of quality standards in surface preparation.
- Knowledge of paint Manufacturer’s Technical and Safety Data Sheets requirements.
- Proficiency in applying marine coatings using brush, roller, conventional spray, and airless spray.
Qualifications for the Industrial Painter
- NVQ level 3 Industrial / Marine / Painting / Decorating
- NVQ Level 2 Industrial / Marine / Painting / Decorating with the appetite to undertake additional training.
- ICATS
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
