About the programme
Human Factors and Behavioural Safety plays a crucial role in maintaining Babcock’s high safety and business performance standards, whether it’s in nuclear, radiological, conventional or environmental safety – or simply by helping our people work smarter and more effectively.  


Over the course of two years, you’ll work across a range of teams, projects, and facilities, allowing you to apply and expand your expertise in human factors while making contributing to safe and efficient operations.
As part of this programme, we encourage mobility across our sectors to give you a broader experience and wider exposure to our business.


Human Factors and Behavioural Safety at Babcock 

As part of multi-disciplinary teams, you’ll engage in a wide variety of exciting projects. These could span the full design and safety lifecycle – from concept development and construction, to in-service support, decommissioning and incident investigation.


You’ll ensure that end users have the right equipment, working environment, knowledge, skills, procedures and organisational support to do their jobs safely.


You’ll also have opportunities to engage in training, share and learn from events and contribute to the development of our safety culture and engagement.


What you'll need 

•    A BSc (Hons) degree in a Human Factors, Ergonomics or related Behavioural Science subject (e.g. Applied Psychology, Cognitive Science or Systems Engineering).
•    Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.

Where you'll be based 

Places on our Human Factors and Behavioural Safety programme for Autumn 2025 are available in our Nuclear sector in Plymouth. 


Our business in Plymouth works in partnership with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Royal Navy at HM Naval Base Devonport. We provide through-life support for submarines, surface ships and associated systems and equipment as part of our continuing commitment to support our nation’s naval capability.


Depending on your programme, your home base could be Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. However, some of your placements may be at other sites.
